After helping Area 14's most famous criminals escape, Elena has to get out before her teacher-- the formidable Margaret Murgatroyd --finds out that she is a sympathiser for the Blemished. The perfect opportunity arises as a beauty pageant promises the winner a trip to London. Will Elena cope with the cut-throat world of a beauty pageant filled with sabotage, violence and betrayal? If she makes it to London, will she find the safe haven she craves? Does she discover more than she'd expected after meeting the mysterious Jake Bloom?

The Fractured is the first part of a spin off series based on The Blemished, which will focus on some of the secondary characters and their stories. Part one follows the life of Elena as she experiences a life changing event.

My Review:

I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Elena Darcey lives in a world where parents buy babies from a place called Genetic Enhancement Ministry or GEM. GEM clone babies and Elena is a clone. Clones are perfect in looks and in the way that they are built. You know perfect curves in all the right places. Clones are also fake oh they have hearts but don't seem to have any feelings of any kind except maybe for what they want. Elena use to be a bully like her friends. They were mean to the Blemished, babies with genetic faults.

Elena did something that was very bad and wrong something that she should never had done. She helped her friend Mina a Blemished escape from Area 10. This changed Elena and well I assume Mina helped to change Elena too. Elena has no friends anymore and they are bullying her. All she wants now is to get out of Area 14 and be free before anyone finds out what she did. She can't take her friends being mean to her and ignoring her anymore. She decides to enter the beauty pageant and she is determined to win and be free. The winner will get to spend a year in London.

Clarissa a clone who use to be Elena's best friend enters the pageant too. Clarissa is not like Elena she is very cruel and will do whatever is necessary to win and beat Elena. Clarissa is not only completing in a contest she is competing against Elena in more ways than one. She tries to sabotage Elena and get her kicked out of the pageant. But Elena way smarter than most of the clones and she has more to fight for.

I really liked Elena's attitude and all. I loved all the comments she came back with. I mean she was fast on her toes. Everyone thought that with her being a clone that she had no feelings and didn't care about the Blemished but they didn't know Elena at all. Elena seemed like a quiet kind of person who kept things to herself. But she would open her mouth when she needed too. She didn't let anyone get the best of her she always had a comeback of some kind.

This is the first book in the Blemished Series that I have read and I can say I loved it. I just wished I had read and heard of this series before and I could have read Blemished first and known about Mina and what Elena did for her. But hey I can still read Blemished reading The Fractured: Elena first didn't leave me hanging to much I still know a little about what she did. Sarah Dalton gave me enough background to sort of let me know what she did for her friend.
